The head fight scenes from
the "Sins of the Past" episode of Xena: Warrior Princess
& Fong Sai Yuk

Watching X:WP, I always get the feeling that the producers and directors have seen many, many Jet Li movies. That's definitely the case where Fong Sai Yuk is concerned. Every time I watch Fong Sai Yuk (and, believe me, the FSY laserdisc and I are very close friends), I notice another visual element, bit of fight choreography, or plot device that has made its way into a Xena episode or two. The most obvious example of this is the head fight scene from FSY that was almost directly copied in the first X:WP episode, "Sins of the Past." There are differences between the two scenes--Xena (Lucy Lawless) and Draco (Jay Laga'aia) fight with staffs on a scaffold before moving to the tops of villagers' heads, while Sai Yuk (Jet Li) and Siu Wan (Sibelle Hu) fight with only their hands and feet, starting out scaling a tower before eventually fighting on top of the villagers' heads. The premise, however, is the same--the first person to touch the ground loses.
